In 1981, Dr. Batten completed a PhD in Economics in Sweden. He worked as a Research Scientist at CSIRO for 16 years, as a Professor of Infrastructure Economics in Sweden for 10 years, then as a consultant to CSIRO’s Energy and Water Flagships. In 2005, he joined the Alternative Transport Fuels Project as the team’s senior economist and international analyst.
Currently, he leads the Low-Cost Algal Fuels Team for the Energy Flagship. Members of this multidisciplinary team are spread over 3 CSIRO sites in Melbourne and Hobart.
