Prof. Michael Borowitzka heads the Algae R&D Center at Murdoch University and has been involved in the commercialisation of microalgae and microalgae products for over 30 years. He was one of the team which developed what is now the largest algae production plant in the world, the Dunaliella salina plant at Hutt Lagoon, Western Australia.
Currently Michael and the team at Murdoch University and the University of Adelaide and Muradel Pty Ltd are operating an algae biofuels pilot plant in Karratha, Western Australia.
Michael is also editor of the Journal of Applied Phycology and past president of the Asia Pacific Society of Applied Phycology and the International Society of Applied Phycology.
