Speaker Profile: Ms. Jill Stuckey, Director, Center of Innovation for Energy

Jill Stuckey is the Director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Energy, affiliated with the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), where she previously served as the state’s Director of Alternative Fuels. The Georgia Center of Innovation program is housed in the Georgia Department of Economic Development, to align the program’s unique resources and capabilities with growing the state’s strategic industries.
The Center of Innovation for Energy was established by Governor Sonny Perdue in April 2008. The mission is to commercialize new products and services (create new revenue) for the energy industry. Since Ms. Stuckey’s appointment to this position by the Governor, Georgia has announced billions of dollars and hundreds of newly created jobs in renewable energy and alternative fuel projects. Jill earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio University.

Speaker Profile: Paul Bryan, Biomass Program – Program Manager, USA Department of Energy (DOE)

In September 2010, Paul Bryan joined the Biomass Program as its new Program Manager. Paul spent 15 years at Chevron and for the last four years, he led their technical efforts in biofuels as Vice President – Biofuels Technology, where he was responsible for building and managing the biofuels technology portfolio internally and through external collaborations with universities, national labs, and companies large and small.
A chemical engineer by training, Paul holds a B.S. from Penn State University, a Ph.D. from UC-Berkeley, and did post-doc work at the Ecole des Mines in Paris. He has also worked at Union Carbide and taught chemical engineering at MIT and the Colorado School of Mines.

Eibhilin Manning works for the European Biomass Industry Association in Brussels, Belgium. Under EUBIA, Eibhilin Manning successfully manages regulatory and communication activities concerning a broad range of EU policies, oversees the coordination of events of EUBIA and consults on projects on pellets, biogas, sustainability criteria and biorefineries.
She is currently dissemination manager for the EU funded project ‘Eurobioref’ under the FP7 Framework Programme and consults on the Biomob project under the FP7 Regions of Knowledge Programme. She participates in the European Renewable Energy Council’s working groups on policy, and the CEN Technical Committee 383 on biomass sustainability criteria.
Eibhilin Manning has been working with EUBIA since 2007. Prior to joining EUBIA in Brussels, Eibhilin Manning undertook a traineeship with the European Commission in the Environment Directorate. She has also worked in France for UNESCO and in Ireland with Apple Computers. She holds a Masters in European Studies.

Peter – Paul Schouwenberg has a legal and business administration background and currently working as Senior Officier Regulatory Affairs and Project Manager Biobased Economy within Essent. Previously Peter-Paul was Vice-President Biofuels & Development within Essent Trading International SA in Geneva, and for more than 10 years responsible for the sourcing, trading and development of biomass (solids and liquids) on a global scale. Due to his leadership Essent became one of the authorities in the biomass market.
He developed furthermore an unique track and trace system, which can be used worldwide in the discussions regarding the sustainability of biomass. Furthermore he was one of the initiators of the standard Gafta (trading) contract for Biomass and the introduction of a forward curve for woodpellets. He was also involved in the development of several new (bio)fuels for the production of sustainable green electricity. The most important one, a worldwide primeur, was the development of a fair-trade coffeehuskpellet in Brazil. For this project he received the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America’s) Sustainability Award.

Douglas Bradley is President of Climate Change Solutions, a consulting firm focused on development of renewable biomass, with clients in Europe, the US and Canada. Since becoming President of the Canadian Bioenergy Association in 2007 he has led four Canadian missions to Europe and Asia, delivered CanBio’s largest ever annual bioenergy conferences, and has re-focused the organization on project development.
At World Bioenergy 2008 in Sweden he was appointed to the Board of the World Bioenergy Association. Prior to running his own business he spent 10 years leading strategic planning for a $ billion forest products company. He has an Honours degree in Mathematics from Queens University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.

Val Schwec is the Commercial Director for the Southeast Region for Kinder Morgan Terminals. He has been associated with the marine industry since 1983 when he joined Van Ommeren, a 150 year old Dutch shipping company with US headquarters in Greenwich, CT.
In 1988 he moved to Fernandina Beach, FL to work exclusively with Van Ommeren’s terminal division. In 1997 he became a minority owner of what was then called Nassau Terminals, Inc. which was eventually sold to Kinder Morgan. Val stayed on as the Port Director for the Ocean Highway and Port Authority and Terminal Manager with operational and commercial responsibilities for Kinder Morgan.
Currently, in addition to functioning as the Port Director for the Port of Fernandina, he has commercial responsibilities in the Southeast for Kinder Morgan including marketing, business development, and acquisitions.
Val is a CPA and graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a degree in accounting and economics. He is currently two classes short of obtaining his MBA with Webster University. He is married and has two teenage girls, one attending the University of Central Florida and the other Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.

Speaker Profile: Jonathan Coppess, Administrator, co-author of BCAP Program, USDA Farm Service Agency

Jonathan Coppess was appointed to serve as Administrator of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in July 2009. He previously served as the Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs at the agency.
Prior to joining FSA, Coppess worked for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson as his legislative assistant for Agri-culture, Energy and Environment. In this capacity, he advised Senator Nelson, a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, on agricultural issues and worked extensively on the 2008 Farm Bill.
Before moving to Washington, D.C., to pursue a career in agricultural policy, Coppess practiced law in Chicago as a commercial litigator for Freeborn & Peters LLP. Prior to attending law school, he worked at Archer Daniels Midland as a grain merchandiser.
Coppess grew up on his family’s corn and soybean farm in Ohio, where he maintains an interest in the seven-generation family farm operated by his father and brother. Coppess resides in Washington, D.C., with his wife Susan and their daughter. He earned a juris doctor degree with honors from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Dan McCrae is a partner in Seyfarth Shaw LLP, a national law firm, and he received his undergraduate degree and law degree (with distinction – Dan was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and to the equivalent in Law School, which is the “order of the Coif”) from Emory University.
Dan has helped members of Georgia’s General Assembly Draft Economic Development Legislation that has become law in this State. Dan is known for this expertise in finance and incentives, and he is frequently retained by companies or communities to help them obtain successful project locations, including handling numerous specialized projects, such as those in the power and alternative energy developments.

Speaker Profile: Page Siplon, Executive Director, Georgia Logistics Innovation Center

Page Siplon is the Executive Director of the Center of Innovation for Logistics and has served in this capacity since 2005. As an industry focused component of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Center of Innovation for Logistics is the state’s leading resource for fueling logistics competitiveness. The Center connects with all logistics sectors to provide a unique combination of access to technology leaders and university R&D, expert analysis of data and trends, cross-sector collaboration, and provides a collective industry voice. The result is increased opportunities for industry growth and success. The Center also serves as the fiduciary agent for all DHS port security grants awarded to Georgia; this currently includes a total over $15M in allocated funds.
Prior to joining the Logistics Innovation Center, Siplon served a combined 12 years in first the United States Marine Corps and then United States Air Force. During this time, Siplon provided circuit-level maintenance on a wide variety of ground-to-air and ground-to-ground communication systems. Specifically, he led the deployment and integration of encryption techniques and cryptographic devices for tactical, enterprise-scale, secure voice and data platforms. This work included support for all branches of the Dept. of Defense, multiple federal security agencies, and numerous NASA activities.
Siplon recently initiated the state’s first statewide Logistics Summit in 2009 and created the first Georgia Logistics Report which defined the state’s logistics industry and the resulting economic impact. He also served as the lead consultant on the Commission for New Georgia’s Freight and Logistics Task Force and has consulted with other state Departments of Transportation on leveraging public private partners for comprehensive statewide freight transportation planning. Siplon is now frequently called upon to speak to a range of global audience types on unique aspects of innovation and logistics. These often include supply chain visibility, security, collaboration, economic development, and strategic planning.
He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and its Computer Society; serves on the National Panel of Experts for Logistics Curriculum Development; serves on the boards for the Southeast Freight Conference, Georgia FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, and the Technology Assoc. of Georgia’s Logistics Society. In addition to these advisory board positions, he and the Center are also active members and supporters of more than 20 national logistics industry associations with chapters located in Georgia.

Anne Rahikainen has 14 years of consulting experience in the forests products industry and wood biomass consuming bioenergy sectors with experience both in North America and Western Europe. Her areas of expertise are market and policy research, market and economic analysis, biomass fuel supply and due diligence studies, locating manufacturing sites and development of company strategy and business plans.
During her career, Ms. Rahikainen has managed numerous studies to investigate investment opportunities in the bioenergy sector and assisted companies to make optimal investment decisions. Her clients have included major utilities, biofuels producers, pellet manufacturers, trading companies, and investors.
As the Director of Bioenergy Services at RISI, her role is to develop information and consulting services for the Bioenergy Industry in North America and internationally. Ms. Rahikainen has a MS in Forest Management from University of Helsinki and an Executive MBA from Cornell University.
