He is the founder of the Kalahari Gas Corporation – a service company which, with United States OPIC finance, acquired the necessary natural-gas well-service machinery enabling the establishment of a new industry within the SADC region.

He has spent time at SANAE in the Antarctic as an Electronics Engineer / Geomagnetist with interests in atmospheric physics and in the air as a part-time commercial pilot.

In 2001 he flew a 1963 Piper Aztec from South Africa to England and thereafter to Australia acting as a support aircraft for the London – Sydney Air-race

Mr Scales currently serves as Chairman of Flying Mission – a voluntary Christian organisation which operates a fleet of aircraft serving church needs and providing Air Charter and related services within the region.

He is a Senior Manager in tax division specializing in the Energy, Utilities and Mining industry with PricewaterhouseCoopers Indonesia.  He has more than 10 years of experience in tax consulting firm and private sector.  His experience cover advisory, compliance and dispute resolution, due diligence and restructuring in respect of taxation of Indonesia and of some other overseas jurisdictions.

William Deertz earned his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Finance from Miami University.  He attended graduate studies at Cleveland State University and is a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant. 

He currently leads the Indonesian Energy, Utilities and Mining practice which include approximately 180 professionals in Assurance, Tax and Advisory.  He is a technical advisor in the Assurance Group of PwC Indonesia and has more than 20+  years of experience in public accounting and private sector.  He has a wide range of experience in advising large multinational and national companies in the aspects of accounting services, financial and compliance audits, due diligence for M&A and internal control matters.

Mr. Modi is responsible for the day-to-day operations of GEECL, and was also the driving force behind the successful listing of the company on London’s AIM (Alternative Investment Market) exchange in December, 2005. This led to GEECL attaining the distinction of being the first privately held Indian company to be listed on AIM of the London Stock Exchange.

Currently Mr. Modi is also engaged in getting methane exploration projects included in the list of projects entitled to earn Carbon Credits under the UN’s Kyoto Protocol.  He’s on the Environment Task Force committee of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)

Mr. Modi joined the YK Modi Group as a full time employee in 1996. He was the head of Business Development at Rossell Industries Limited, and at the same time was nurturing GEECL. Mr. Modi was also involved in the restructuring and subsequent highly successful sale of Rossell Industries Limited to Unilever. Rossell Industries Limited is an Indian company with tea plantations in the north eastern state of Assam.
Prior to joining the YK Modi Group, Mr. Modi worked with ANZ Bank and Qualcomm Incorporated. In 1996, he was involved in the project finance division of ANZ Bank, London, UK. Prior to that, in 1995, he worked in the international accounting and finance division of Qualcomm Inc, San Diego, USA.

Mr. Modi did his schooling from St. Columba’s School, New Delhi, India where he majored in management. Thereafter, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University, USA with a major in Finance.

Mr. Modi subsequently undertook Executive Education courses from Harvard Business School, USA; one in Finance, and another on Launching New Ventures.
