D1 Oils Plant Science, a full daughter of D1 Oils plc, is a biofuels technology company. Our strategy is to develop new energy crops into sustainable commercial fuels. We provide technology and services for the breeding, development, planting and harvesting of new varieties of commercial biofuel crops, focusing on alternative, sustainable feedstocks that are not subject to the same price pressures as food-grade crops. We have an established plant science and planting programme for Jatropha curcas, a robust, tropical oilseed bearing tree. Jatropha produces inedible oil feedstock for biodiesel and is able to make use of land not suitable for arable agriculture. Our knowledge and new varieties on Jatropha are produced for D1-BP Fuel crops, the joint venture between British Petroleum and D1 Oils that focuses on planting Jatropha curcas and producing the oil from the harvested seeds.

10:40Â YIELD IMPROVEMENT: AGRONOMIC PRACTICES & CROP MANAGEMENT
Overview of Presentation
Focus on Jatropha curcas. The activities involved are breeding and technology development, product placement and agronomy research, multiplication, and a stewardship program. The activities are centered in Cape Verde, where a new breeding centre has been erected, and in Southern Africa, India and South-East Asia, the regions where the new varieties from the breeding and selection work are being evaluated in product placement trials and where our agronomy research is performed. New lines that perform well are being multiplied locally in seed gardens and put on the market. The target for 2008 is to produce over 90 million seedlings. The company has one major client, D1-BP Fuel crops that is focusing on planting and expelling of oil.
