Day 2 - Tuesday, October 21
17:00 MARKET DEVELOPMENT OF JATROPHA PLANT OIL ON COOKING STOVE

Overview of Presentation
In cooperation with universities and foundations, BSH has developed a new technology, dubbed “protos”, that can enables the use of any type of plant oil – including Jatropha – for cooking purposes. Purposefully designed to allow for a maximum local manufacturing and therefore job creation, protos is a “bottom of the pyramid” technology that addresses issues including indoor air pollution, deforestation, safety as well as climate change.  The protos plant-oil cooker is conceived as a jump-start technology for the widespread and local use of plant-oil. It is intended to provide a key component in a dynamic that allows for the creation of plant-oil production and a delivery infrastructure providing a local market and therefore encouraging farmers to plant. Moreover, the cooker could also be an impetus to develop additional plant-oil based technologies providing heat, light, and other energy services.  Because protos employs crude plant oils filtered only to remove large particle, costly and time-consuming refining or trans-esterfication is not required in order for local customers the gain access to the energy locked inside this renewable resource.  With a clear understanding of the concerns related to burning edible oils, BSH is convinced that use of Jatropha as a key fuel source for protos is a must.

JATROPHAWORLD 2008 is a showcase of all the latest trends and shifts occurring in the Jatropha value chain, bringing together on a single platform, the best expertise to discuss and analyze the present and future dynamics of Jatropha from a technological and socio-economic angle.
