Speaker Profile
Nagashi Tominaga was born in Nagasaki province in Japan and migrated to Brazil in 1960. He graduated in Economic Science in 1976 and worked for Sumitomo Corporation, Rio de Janeiro Branch from 1978 until May of 2004. His last function was Chief Business Officer of Projects and Machineries Department and was involved in logistic study for the exportation of Brazilian ethanol (alcohol) to Asia, wind power and solar power generation projects.
He then established “NNE MINAS AGRO FLORSTAL LTDA.” in Janaúba city, Minas Gerais state, Brazil with the objective of offering suitable plantation to the very poor population of the North and North Eastern regions of Minas Gerais state. Conventional cultures in Minas Gerais are difficult because of low rain fall. Jatropha was selected, considering the Brazilian Biodiesel Program which mandated 2% biodiesel blend in 2008, and jatropha’s botanical characteristics.
Mr Tominaga is currently the shareholder and Director of Biojan-MG Industrial Ltda which is a joint venture between “NNE MINAS AGRO FLORSTAL LTDA.” and “CIE Automotive” in Spain to produce jatropha seeds.
