For more than 90 years, UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, has been a leader in developing and commercializing technology to the oil refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries. UOP’s principal products offered to these industries are catalysts, molecular sieve adsorbents, licensed processes, packaged plants and key mechanical equipment. Supporting these products is a broad array of engineering and technical services that facilitate successful installation and operations. UOP currently holds more than 2,500 active patents as a result of its dedicated research and development commitment.
In November 2006, as one more step in this effort, UOP announced the formation of its Renewable Energy & Chemicals business unit. UOP Renewable Energy & Chemicals is focused on the developing profitable and efficient ways to convert biofeedstocks, such as oils from plants and algae, greases and certain waste products into valuable fuel and chemicals. We are developing the best and most efficient solutions to support the growing need for biologically derived fuels and chemicals. Our solutions are focused on the technologies that will produce superior, high-quality products that maximize the use of exiting infrastructure and whose production does not compete with valuable land and water resources.
Today, UOP is working on many initiatives to develop the best renewable energy solutions.
UOP/Eni Ecofining™ Process for Green Diesel Fuel
Green Jet Fuel
Pyrolysis Oil Technology for Power & Fuels
Renewable Chemicals
Second Generation Feedstock Technologies
In November 2008, UOP and Ensyn Technologies of Canada established a JV to develop a technology pathway to convert cellulosic wastes to transport fuel via a Pyrolysis intermediate. The Pyrolysis Oil production technology is already commercial enabling the production of renewable power and heat.
